Trade remains top of the agenda. Other issues discussed include climate change, terrorism and reform of the UN Security Council to be more inclusive.
Today's summit was preceded by meetings of trade and foreign ministers from nearly all 54 African nations. Our correspondent Shweta Bajaj spoke to us from New Delhi, about what India is looking to achieve through this summit.
"First thing is the fact that Narendra Modi's diplomatic push. The second is that India has been looking at places to invest and also looking at markets. India's trade with Africa has been remained at about 70 billion dollars. India has trying to up its trade with Africa. It knows that a huge market for its goods will come from there.
