Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced that he and African leaders have reached consensus on lifting China-Africa relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Xi proposed the upgrade in a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Johannesburg. The summit resulted in a declaration and action plan that Xi said represents all-round planning for future development of China-Africa relations.
The two sides will turn their focus to 10 major plans to boost bilateral cooperation, including industrialization, green development and people-to-people exchanges. Xi said the upgrade would also inject fresh impetus into the development of ties.
