On Thursday, President Xi outlined Beijing's policy in the Middle East in a speech at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo.

CCTV's Lindy Mtongana has been following the state visit. She told that Xi emphasized that the peace process in the Middle East must be led by the Arab League and by the Arab nations themselves.
"The timing of the speech is incredibly significant. As we know there is great conflict within the Middle East and North Africa region. Tensions arising from the Islamic militant groups operating in the region."
"So of course, President Xi Jinping address these issues, stating primarily that he support for a peace process. He very much emphasizes that the peace process must be led by the Arab League, by the Arab nations themselves, and international community must follow."
"He also said that he of course respect the leadership and made a point to emphasize a sense of urgency, not only for China and Arab Nations but the entire international community. He said that in the moment between the hope and despair we must choose hope."
"There were also discussions around the the cooperation. Speaking about the how important the development is for the Arab Nations, and China's possible role in assisting from a humanitarian perspective in ensuring peace and development in the Arab region."
