US secretary of state John Kerry, and other G7 foreign ministers are scheduled to make a landmark trip to the memorial site for the world's first nuclear attack in Japan. The visit comes as the ministers wrap up their final day of the two-day meetings, which includes a focus on terrorism and other security threats.
The G-7 are meeting in Hiroshima, a city that the United States laid to waste by dropping a nuclear bomb at the end of World War Two.
John Kerry has become the first ever US Secretary of State to visit Hiroshima.
US delegates have said Kerry will NOT issue an apology for the US action, - but instead stress the tragedy of war, and further outline US President Obama's anti-nuclear stance, first detailed in Prague in 2009."
The most recent Nuclear Security Summit just wrapped up in Washington, DC a little more than a week ago, during the two day summit in Hiroshima G-7 leaders are expected to discuss further efforts of nuclear disarmament.
With Iran's nuclear program now under the watchful eye of international observers - much of the talk is expected to focus on the DPRK, and the efforts of Kim Jong-un's government to develop a missile that can carry a small nuclear warhead.
At the same time, member nations are in Japan in large part to focus on international cooperation in the effort to combat the global rise in terrorism.--- as well as ongoing conflict in Ukraine are also on the agenda.
